Online Pop-Up Exhibition ‘What about You?’ Contemporary Senegalese Artists: From April 5, 2020 on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Artists: Kine Aw, Kh Bamba, Barkinado Bocoum, Amy Celestine Dion, Sambou Diouf, Armin Kane, Sandiry Niang and Piniang.

Senegal, the country of the famous Dak’Art biennial, has an outspoken history of art. Since the sixties there has been a strong emphasis on painting which has shaped the current generation of artists. In this exhibition ‘What about You?’ the viewer is asked to think about identity, the human gaze, behaviour, tradition, modernity, history, brotherhood and socio-political themes.

I visited Senegalese artists in their studios and brought a nice collection of artworks back home. I planned to exhibit the works during my lecture series at Bonhams Auction House in Amsterdam. Then corona virus changed all plans.

But why wait? I have decided to share the artworks now in an online pop-up exhibition titled: ‘What About You?’ with 8 Senegalese artists. This initiative is also a way to support the artists. All artworks are for sale and consist of series of 2 or 3 pieces. The price ranges between 995,- Euro to 1495,- Euro per series. Contact me if you are interested: rosalie@urbanafricans.com
