‘what about you?’ DAY 6: SANDIRY NIANG

How do YOU value your way of life?
Niang lives in a crowded suburb of Dakar and addresses social promiscuity and living in cramped houses. His work is about despair and optimism by paying an homage to traditional African values.
Community spirit, respecting elderly, spirituality, brotherhood and solidarity are important traditional values which he hopes will not disappear in modern times. Different techniques and media symbolize the different layers of life.

Sandiry Niang (1976) lives and works in Dakar and has taken part in workshops and residency programs both locally and internationally. He has exhibited internationally including in Senegal, France, Italy, Switzerland and Morocco.

These works are part of an online pop-up exhibition of contemporary African art ‘What About You?’
