‘Let’s talk About Art!’ is an online art education program for contemporary African artists from Mali and Senegal who are young, emerging and society-critical.
The often hardly existing cultural infrastructure and the lack of social support on the African continent makes it an enormous challenge to work as a visual artist. We want to create more visibility for contemporary African, society-critical artists. So that they and their work receive the attention it deserves, locally, regionally and internationally.
We work in a laboratory setting in which artists learn together and reflect and research in various ways. For 9 months the selected artists participate in the online program that consists of lectures, alternated with workshops.
With Loes Kuijpers (museologist and founder Moogo) and Rosalie van Deursen (founder Urban Africans) as teachers/trainers and a diverse palette of guest lecturers.
The emphasis is on stimulating an inquisitive and critical attitude, whereby an appeal is made to self-reflection. We achieve this by offering a broad art-theoretical basis in combination with practical assignments. In addition, we pay a lot of attention to the preparation for professional practice, writing about the work, presenting yourself, the relationships with clients and collectors so that an infrastructure is created for the artist to be able to sell the work. We therefore organize sales exhibitions: online and in Bamako and Amsterdam.
